The Town of Halton Hills is looking for creators to be an Artist Next Door, with thousands in funding available to help the chosen recipients realize their vision for an art project.
The challenge? Their work must demonstrate youth engagement.
“We want to make sure that we are capturing that voice and perspective of our youth in our programming,” said the Town’s Cultural Programming Producer, Pearl Schacter.
She added projects like this “make sure that we’re looking to the future and shaping our programming for that population.”
Applicants must be:
- Artists, including artist teams, collectives, cultural businesses, and arts/culture groups
- Active with an artistic or culturally engaging practice
- Able to demonstrate a publicly presented body of work, dating back at least one year
- A resident of Halton Hills or operate an arts/cultural practice, business or organization in the town.
The artist does not need to be part of the youth population, but their proposal to the Town must engage youth.
The project can be in any medium and is open to artists like painters or sculptors, poets, theatre people or musicians.
The deadline to apply is August 12 at 10 a.m., and selected applicants will be notified on or before August 26.
The Town has created a document for prospective artists with further instructions, including where to submit the application.
