Nasdaq Edges Lower; TSMC in Focus — Live Updates


The Dow Jones Industrial Average snapped its six-session winning streak, part of a broad decline in the U.S. stock market.

The blue-chip index lost 533 points, or 1.3%. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.7%, a day after the tech-heavy index suffered its worst session since 2022. Read the day’s full markets roundup here.

Before Thursday’s selloff, investors had been rotating from the AI-focused mega-cap tech plays that dominated the first half of the year into areas of the market that could benefit from potential rate cuts.

On the economic data front, weekly jobless claims came in at 243,000, higher than economists expected.

The S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite and Dow industrials all declined. The Russell 2000 also fell, dropping more 1.8%.

Shares of Netflix were roughly flat in after hours trading after the streaming giant reported its second-quarter results.

Benchmark Treasury yields edged up, settling at 4.188%, from 4.143% in the previous session. That snapped a two-session streak of declines. Fed Governor Michelle Bowman is scheduled to give a speech this evening in Dallas.

European stocks were mixed, and the euro weakened, after the European Central Bank signaled its openness to further rate cuts this year.
