Erika Kullberg is a financial influencer with over 21 million followers, including more than 9 million on TikTok, 5 million on Instagram, 4 million on Facebook and 2 million on YouTube. She is a lawyer and the founder of Erika.com who uses her skills and expertise to help everyday folks figure out how to navigate money.
Kullberg, like lots of people, found creative ways to use her knowledge and talents to do what she wants to do. While Kullberg’s social media channels and podcast started as a side gig, it’s now grown into her own business that she can do from wherever she wants across the globe.
Interested in figuring out how to do the same, even if it’s just starting off small? “Finding a good side hustle really starts with looking at what your skills are first,” Kullberg told GOBankingRates. Like any journey, you have to ask yourself what you are good at and then see whether it can be done remotely or from home.

Freelance Writing and Editing
“If you’re a great writer, freelance writing is a great option,” Kullberg said. “Sites like Upwork or Fiverr always have companies looking for copywriters, technical writers and editing work.”
But freelancing does not have to be just limited to writing and editing. Kullberg highlighted that the same setup and ability to work anywhere in the world also can be applied to “skills like video editing, graphic design and coding.”

Virtual Assistants
Long gone are the days when assistants were required to be in the office with a desk just outside of their boss’s workspace, ready to leap up and take care of everything in person. Now, Kullberg shared, it can be done digitally.
“One space that’s growing fast is virtual assistants — I use them myself!” Kullberg said.
Being a virtual assistant could be a great fit if you’re organized and want to work from different places. “If you’re super organized, you can work remotely as a virtual assistant managing digital administrative tasks and project management,” Kullberg explained. “Since you can work from anywhere, it’s a great idea if you’re wanting to travel and still bring in income. You can also juggle multiple clients at a time.”
Tutoring
Online tutoring is another good side gig in Kullberg’s professional opinion. That’s because people always want to learn or need some extra help understanding concepts for coursework. This is particularly true for people around the world who do not speak English as a first language and want to learn from someone who is fluent.
“Companies such as VIPKid or Cambly allow you to instruct English or another subject to any student in the world,” Kullberg said. “With these sites in different time zones, you can look for tutoring hours that work for your schedule when traveling.”
Of course, these are not the only jobs that can be done from anywhere, but they are a good place to start looking. Just take Kullberg’s advice and start by finding out what you are good at. Then, you can go from there to hunt for the side gig you want as well as where you want to do it.
