Woodley and Early artists enjoy record sales of their work – Wokingham.Today

A GROUP of artists enjoyed high numbers of visitors to their Woodley exhibition last weekend.

The Woodley and Earley Arts Group filled a gallery at the Oakwood Centre with paintings, with artists on hand to demonstrate techniques and chat with visitors.

“We’ve had record sales already today,” said artist Elizabeth Baldin on the exhibition’s first day.

“The judge has been very impressed by the variety of work on display.

“All our members are welcome to exhibit, whether they are experienced or not, so that’s been very encouraging.

“There are close to 60 members of what is a thriving local group, and around 30 of them are exhibiting today.”

Footfall was high and Elizabeth, programme organiser for the group, was expecting to have had around 200 people through the doors by the close of day.

Artists Martin Rolfe and Clare Buchta were demonstrating their work.

Martin said, “It’s hard work setting up the gallery exhibition, but brilliant once you get here.

“People come and chat with you, and are often interested to find out more about the processes behind the paintings.

“There’s often a lot more to art works than people at first realise.”

The art group meets at The Oakwood Centre, Woodley on the last Thursday of the month.

Doors are open from 7pm, with art demonstrations from 7:30pm.

Visitors are welcome, with entry costing £6 or free to members.
