Up in the main gallery, the show includes the work of 15 Cariboo Art Society members.

Linda Bachman, an artist who is also a board member of the Station House Gallery Society, said she found the theme really challenging personally.

“We had to search our brains for what is influencing us,” she said, noting in her piece Windswept, she was trying to visually depict the influence of the wind on us.

Bachman said she is fascinated by wood and often paints wood and trees, so the wind was a departure, but it is something she is influenced by.

Fellow artist Sandra Stokes said she didn’t find the theme as challenging because she appreciates the diversity of influences and the variety expressed by all artists.

“I want my paintings to be rough and full of life,” she said. Stokes painted two of her pieces for the show on weathered wood pieces.

A number of members of the Cariboo Art Society created a larger mosaic with small individual square images painted by artists being combined together into a segmented image.

The compiled piece is called This is Us, and a small booklet accompanies the painting, with each artist having a brief write up on their piece and art. Some of the individual pieces are for sale.

The group exhibition In the Spirit is on display in the main gallery until June 29. The Station House is free to visit and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
