Based at UWE Bristol’s Bower Ashton campus, Sarah Bodman oversees Artists’ Books at the Centre for Print Research, as well as leading the MA programme for multidisciplinary printmaking.
Bodman runs regular research projects in contemporary book arts, and is the editor of the biennial reference publication The Artist’s Book Yearbook, published by UWE’s own Impact Press.
Working in collaboration with Tom Sowden and Angie Butler and Bower Ashton staff, she also leads the Bristol Artists Book Event (BABE), a free, biennial event which has grown significantly from its first iteration in 2007 to a major international showcase for the genre.

The 2024 event: Babe is the Thing With Feathers will take place on the weekend of 29-30 June, welcoming over 100 exhibitors from the UK and Ireland, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden and the USA.
As well as performances and readings from artist books, there will be informal, low key, 15-minute talks from a number of the participating artists, offering visitors a chance to ask questions and find out how these unique objects originated.
Live printing will take place across the weekend from The Lemonade Press, and a variety of on-site exhibitions will include Joe Devlin, Books from the Burton, and the Nordic Letterpress Network.
Bristol Artists Books Event is at UWE Bower Ashton on June 29-30 at 11am-5pm. It is free, unticketed, and everyone is welcome. For more information, visit www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk. BABE takes place at A, B, C and D blocks; you can download a campus map here.
