The Anthology of Rural Life – Farmers of the Lizard will run between June 15 and September 1.
It provides a visual journey through the lives of various individuals living in rural areas who have a connection to the land.
The exhibition aims to present a narrative around the changes in rural life and the complex issues currently being faced in the countryside.
It also acknowledges the integral role that farming continues to play in the social and economic framework of the Lizard.
Photographers Colin Robins and Oliver Udy, who have been working on this project for over a decade, have created over 20 new portraits of farmers on the Lizard – this is the peninsula in Cornwall where Kestle Barton is located.
These portraits will be displayed alongside their earlier work from Cornwall and Europe.
The Lizard peninsula is an area steeped in a tradition of farming, an activity that continues to shape the landscape to this day.
The venue for the exhibition, Kestle Barton, was a working farm until 2005 when Boaden Lyne retired.
It subsequently took on a multi-purpose role.
As a venue, it is committed to engendering debates around land use and about issues that are relevant to the residents and visitors to the area.
Mr Robins and Mr Udy’s work is a tapestry of portraits, landscapes, practices, and experiences that give a sense of life in rural areas.
The entire Anthology of Rural Life project will be preserved at Kresen Kernow as a social and historical record.
In tandem with the exhibition, a series of ‘Tent Talks’ will be organised in a large marquee in the meadow on the weekend of July 20-21.
These talks, which are free and open to all, will focus on timely themes.
The exhibition and events have the backing of the Falmouth Art Gallery and the Museum of Cornish Life, Helston.
