An opening reception for a new display, Autumn Apparitions, took place on Oct. 4 at the JKR Gallery owned by artist J. Kirk Richards.

“We have a lot of really incredible artists in this show and it makes me excited whenever I get to put up a piece,” Savannah Liddicoat, co-director of JKR Gallery and BYU fine arts student said.

The invitational show shows autumn and Halloween inspired art from local artists, including pieces from BYU alums.

“We do this because J. Kirk Richards loves Halloween,” Liddicoat said. “It’s not necessarily our most well-paying show, but we do it for the community and because everyone loves Halloween.”

Many of the artists whose work was displayed in the show attended the opening reception, according to Liddicoat.

“I really liked all the pieces. I feel like they are pieces that it’s not just the art in the middle, it includes the frame from corner to corner,” Amelia Scott, interior designer who attended the opening reception, said. “The whole thing is part of the art. Every time you look at a piece, you’re going to find something new and something different.”

The JKR gallery hosts a different art show each month of the year. Autumn Apparitions will be on display until Oct. 26.

“I came in here three weeks ago and they had a different art show going on. But this time coming in, I’ve noticed that a lot of the paintings have more personal meaning to me,” Troy Dollery, BYU sophomore and pre-business student, said.

Three original pieces by J. Kirk Richards were on display at the show. Pieces from Autumn Apparitions will be available for purchase until the display ends.
